THE DISADVANTAGES OF GENERAL JOURNALISM
General journalism can be described as a profession where the journalist gathers information and pass it on to the people. Though general journalism is a noble profession, it has its own disadvantages.
The one main draw back of the profession is the long working hours. This literally makes the social life of the journalist is as good as nothing. The journalists are expected to work around the clock on a 24/7 basis which really makes their life difficult. Journalists like Johanna Garå dedicate their entire time and attention to whatever is the article they are working on.
In cases of investigative journalism the life of the journalist is at risk. Investigative journalism requires huge amount of resources and if it is done incorrectly it could bring about a negative reaction among the people. While good writing can be thought provoking bad writing could lead to disastrous results.
The other great disadvantage of general journalism is biased reporting. This is a form of reporting favoring one side and slinging mud on the other side. The fact reported should be genuine and should be checked correctly before it is made known to the people. So the journalists are expected to report an event in an unbiased fashion. Amateur journalists can follow the lead of Johanna Garå and be genuine and unbiased in their writing. They should set aside their prejudices and report a event accurately without exaggerating. The main objective of journalism is loyalty to people and a sincere journalist should always keep in mind that like other service based professions journalism is one which requires dedication.
